The Last King Of Scotland Free Online – If ever there was a movie that lives and dies with its main character, this is it. Forest Whitaker plays a wonderfully ambiguous role: Idi Amin, an army commander in post-colonial Uganda, who seized power from President Milton Obote in a military coup in 1971 and spent the next eight years taking the world by storm with his aggressive and unusual rhetoric. By awarding himself a CBE to claim kingdom rights for Scotland. But Amin’s headline-grabbing, almost comical jokes were followed by a reign of terror, exile and assassination, particularly colored by Amin’s years of service in the British Imperial Army. A playwright must explore the complexities, and it is not surprising that Amin was the subject of other films, including two quickly released television films, Raid op Entebbe and Victory at Entebbe (both 1976), in response to the Israeli commando raid of 1976. At Kampala Airport and Barbet Schroeder’s fascinating 1974 documentary General Idi Amin’s Dada: A Self-Portrait, which held the French hostage in Kampala until Schroeder made the cuts Amin demanded.

January 2010: My biggest concern with the visuals on the DVD was blown contrast and skin tones with a distinct orange tint. Both disappeared when switching to 1080P, and we got a nice and thick film grain, nicely textured on the movie screen. Details and colors develop accordingly. This HD transfer looks absolutely gorgeous, and for those who can appreciate true grain, the presentation should impress.

I Was Devastated”: Tim Berners Lee, The Man Who Created The World Wide Web, Has Some Regrets

Includes the new lossless DTS-HD Master 5.1 with an incredible speed of 4086 Kbit/s. I really don’t know what to say, other than I think it’s perfect. The differences are common when triggered by the soundtrack, the scores are incredibly clear. It is absolutely flawless. DUB and foreign language subtitle options abound, and AN Fox has added many additional subtitles for commentary in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

I strongly support the DVD and upgrade it to a new “must-have” format. This is a wonderful and incredible movie

On DVD: I haven’t seen the movie in the theater yet, so it’s hard for me to make specific statements about how it looks. Digitally it looks as good (maybe a notch below) as you would expect from a modern DVD transfer of the film. My only caveats are the overcontrast in some scenes (usually outdoors), which may or may not be a function of the production. It gives the DVD the appearance of a better improvement, but with Fox’s usual stellar track record, I’d be inclined to dismiss manipulation as the likely cause. Otherwise, detail is acceptable and black levels appear quite strong.

Of course, it’s very clean, with anamorphic and progressive images close to the edges of the frame. The 5.1 sound did a great job of defining many of the background noises (people, etc.) that were prevalent throughout the film.

In the full audio commentary, Kevin Macdonald plays his part very well, describing details that only the director fully knew, and the recognition and respect for the actors. There are seven deleted scenes that include additional commentary by MacDonald. There is a feature film called The Capture of Idi Amin – sort of a mini-documentary about Idi Amin – it’s worth watching – quite fascinating, the pros and cons of the Ugandan leader, with some archival footage. Forest Whitaker in “Idi Amin” – the actor talks about his smart take on the film and preparation for the role. After that we have a casting – a press conference with rather pointless interviews and finally a theatrical trailer. Perfect complements and good film support.

Forest Whitaker and I thought it was worth the purchase price. Fox should be given credit for really thinking about this DVD and I see no reason not to recommend it highly!
