Learn To Speak Irish Gaelic Online For Free – Every year on the eve of St.
As far as I know, Irish is the only language in the world that has 17 consecutive holidays. 🙂

Seachtain na Gaeilge (Week of the Irish Language) is an international celebration of the Irish language and one of the largest celebrations of our native language and culture held annually in Ireland and internationally.
How Learning Gaeilge In Ireland Expanded More Than My Vocabulary
In my hometown of Brisbane, join the Brisbane Irish festival – a week full of activities (music, film, parades, etc.) for the Irish and people of Irish descent.
This is one of the few reasons why this is my favorite time of year. 🙂
In 2012 I taught myself Irish while living on the other side of the world with limited resources.
I spent a whole year from no knowledge of the language to fluency (with miserable hours of poor resources and nothing to practice), then flew across the world to the Irish Gaeltacht in Donegal to put everything I learned to use.
Irish Language Classes In Cultúrlann Mcadam Ó Fiaich
After working hard to learn Irish and document my progress on this blog, it was the perfect solution for me to travel to Ireland from Australia and the language around for a few weeks. .
Since the end of 2012, I have been struggling with other languages (living in different countries), but Irish is near and dear to my heart, so I want to revisit it every time to keep it cool. I mean until I visit Ireland again.
If you are new to the Irish language it can be difficult to know where to start and what the best resources are out there so the list below will help.
If there is anything you think you need from this list, please share it in the comments section below.

I have tried to make the instructions as clear as possible because one of the frustrations you will face when writing Irish is not being able to make out what is written unless it is explained.
All Irish dialects are mostly very similar and understandable (speakers understand each other), but for us students it can be difficult at first – especially if you use it from a book that focuses on a specific language.
(Standard Language) is not a ‘natural’ language, but an authorized and written language that applies to all languages.
You will also notice that although people are using standard Irish, there is still a sound of their dialect.
Learning How To Learn: Powerful Mental Tools To Help You Master Tough Subjects
My advice is don’t focus too much on the differences ahead and use what you like now.
Speaking Irish can be very difficult at first. If you find a word you can’t pronounce, I recommend Forvo (multiple languages) and Abair.ie (Connemara and Ulster).
In my opinion, this is one of the most innovative and unique methods on the market today – unlike anything else you’ve seen (you can read my Glossika review and interview with the founder here).
In short: it focuses on the repetition of word patterns in Irish using their spatial repetition algorithm.
How To Learn A Language (and Stick At It)
I have to list this because I think it’s good, it’s free and Duolingo is one of the most popular places to learn languages.
The Irish version was released not too long ago and I’ve been using it ever since as a fun way to brush up on my Irish.
My only problem with Duolingo in general is that it is not a tool to improve your speaking or listening skills. It gives you a great foundation in the language without boring you to tears, but to become a better speaker you need to use it with others (
For speaking practice I usually recommend a service like italki to connect with native speakers and teachers, but unfortunately there is only 1 Irish teacher at the moment (speakers should read this in Irish and register to complete the application) .
Places You Can Learn Irish Dance Online
Another option I found useful is the GaelSkype group on Facebook which is set up to connect students via Skype.
I have already reviewed this (read here or watch the video below) with the online version of the book called Ranganna.com (I like the book, but the video is also online).
The books cover all the Irish languages and are some of the best language books (with audio) I have used.
The Irish edition is a “compact” edition that is shorter than many other titles, but it is excellent as a basis for Irish writing.

A great website for learning Munster Irish that breaks the language down into small and very easy lessons.
I spent some time with Eoin in Ireland and myself used Bitesize Irish when I started teaching. He really knows his stuff and is the only site of its kind for Irish (especially useful for those interested in the Munster language).
Speak Irish is a pure audio service (in the same way, but not like Pimsleur). Irish Grammar will suit those who want to improve their reading and writing or have a better understanding of the ins and outs of Irish grammar. Irish is the best of both worlds.
There is an older version of Irish from Teach Yourself that is based on Munster Irish and has dialogue from West Cork speakers, but I’m not sure if it’s still being produced (too bad if not).
Learning The Irish Language? These Are The Resources You Need
Oideas Gael is a senior boarding school in Gleann Cholm Cille where I went to practice my Irish (see video above).
They have produced this book (with audio) which I think is very important (design, content and audio quality) and a starting point for those who want to study Ulster Irish closely.
The Colloquial version (like Write Yourself) is long, covers many languages and is of consistent quality.
Colloquial Irish is one of the best books in the Colloquial series. As a source for good Connemara discussions, this is one of the best I’ve used.
Research Turner Syndrome
Instead of focusing on grammatical details, each chapter/section deals with a relevant topic and then gives you a variety of words and expressions that can be used to talk about it.
The voice is hard to follow, but the content is good (if you can pause and rewind to catch what’s being said). It is an excellent resource for new Ulster students.
Like Gaeilge Gan Stró and An Ghaeilge Bheo (see below), this is one of the best resources in my opinion – top quality, full of interesting and best practices, An Grá Faoi Ghlas. 🙂
Grá Faoi Ghlas is like an episode of Big Brother where a bunch of normal people settle into a house and interact with each other. Best of all, everyone speaks different languages (so you can hear different things) and the actors speak at Elementary – Lower Intermediate level so it’s very easy to follow once you’ve covered the basics of Irish. .
Multilingual Learning For A Globalised World
You can actually buy a video clip, but someone uploads it to YouTube so you can watch it. Here is the first scene (the boy from Cork is my favorite :)):
I was hesitant to post this to be honest because it’s a very low level book (more grammar + general practice book) but it’s good and comprehensive enough to suit some students.
The book is very popular (and the information is very good), but I find lessons like this difficult to start with a new language.
Buntus Cainte is a series of three books shaped like mountains that many people consider one of the best books ever made for learning the Irish language.
Department Of Human Services Department Of Human Services
I don’t know how they relate to Buntus Cainte, but there is a website called TalkIrish.com that offers Buntus Cainte as a downloadable MP3 album and an ‘online version’ as well.
For anyone who has done anything Irish before missing the fire thing, An Ghaeilge Bheo is one of the best I’ve ever seen.
It is packed with high quality listening material with transcripts in all languages and covers interesting topics. For each natural conversation, the book goes into detail to find and analyze the unique vocabulary, grammar and expressions used by people from different parts of Ireland.
